Outcomes & Impact

The main outcome of ICOS is to provide the European Commission with sound advice on semiconductors joint research initiatives on specific topics with selected leading countries.

Field of Semiconductor and Semiconductor-based photonics technology

The main outcome of ICOS is to provide the European Commission with sound advice on semiconductors joint research initiatives on specific topics with selected leading countries. We will then offer support on their implementation, backed up by our well documented analysis of the value chains and the mutual advantages of potential collaboration.

We expect ICOS to have a tremendous impact in the field of semiconductors but not only.

Indeed, we believe that the outcomes of our project will play a huge role in advancing the technological agenda of the European Union, and more broadly, its global leadership.

First and foremost, our work will raise awareness on the advanced research activities, inside and outside Europe. Semiconductors & Semiconductor-based photonics are pivotal technologies for almost all existing industrial sectors.

As European industrial partners learn more about it, they will be able to make it a competitive advantage, by defining precise research targets and establishing more adequate bilateral agreements.

International cooperation in this field is also key for speeding up technological innovation, as has been demonstrated in the past.

Technological Agenda of the European Union

When it comes to technological advances, the agenda of the European Union is broad, bold and innovative. ICOS will strongly achieve targets by:

  • Facilitating the European Industry in the realization of emerging technologies, through Advanced computation and Advanced functionalities
  • Contributing to many plans such as the:
    • European Chips Act
    • Digital Agenda
    • European Strategic Autonomy, through balanced partnership with like-minded leading countries
    • Green Deal, through the digitalisation of the society, electronic monitoring and the reinforcement of sustainable electronics

Leadership of the European Union

On a broader point of view, our outcomes will, undoubtedly, increase European leadership in the field of Semiconductors by reducing the existing gaps in the value chain.

Moreover, new standards in sectors of industrial interest shall be drafted along ICOS’ development and findings thus reinforcing the position of the European industry in a win-win collaboration, while contributing to the European strategic autonomy in the near future through focused cooperation with trusted partners.

The final goal of ICOS is to increase European leadership in the field of Semiconductors by strengthening international cooperation to reduce existing gaps in the value chains
