2025 International Semiconductor Researchers Forum – Progress and cooperation
Since the launch of the ROK-EU Digital Partnership in 2022 and following the successful first EU-RoK Joint Researchers Forum on Semiconductors in Brussels on March 2024, the Republic of Korea and the European Union have significantly expanded joint research and development efforts in semiconductor technologies. This collaborative momentum has paved the way for deeper exchanges and shared technological progress.
This forum spotlighted recent trends in semiconductor research, present the latest breakthroughs, and explore opportunities for future cooperation.
The event brought together the stakeholders of this cooperation, including institutional and political representatives from both sides. A first session on the stakes and materialisation so far of the cooperation between the Republic of Korea and the European Union took place with Chang Yune Lee (MSIT), Rainer Wessely (EU Del. to RoK), Sang Wan Ryu (NRF), Juyoung Kim (EU Del. to RoK), Jari Kinaret (Chips JU) and Seo Gyun Kim (KE-SRCC).
They all emphasized the critical importance of semiconductors in a world that is constantly evolving, as well as the need to combine each party’s strengths to address one another’s gaps. In the aftermath of the health crisis, the challenges facing the sector became both evident and numerous, highlighting that the digital transformation must prioritize the issue of semiconductor development. They underscored that the most effective way to tackle all the future challenges of the semiconductor industry is through networking and collaboration.
This collaboration took shape during the forum, where experts from the Republic of Korea and Europe shared technical advances that will help address both current and future challenges, as well as the initial results of the cooperation between the two regions. Each participant highlighted the value and necessity of working together.
This Forum, organised by the Ministry of Science and ICT, the National Research Foundation of Korea, KE-SRCC, the European Commission, the Chips JU and ICOS, marked another step toward international cooperation on Semiconductors.
